As many as 945 of 1,045 planned schools connected to high-speed Internet in Tatarstan in 2020

10 August 2020, Monday

By the beginning of the new academic year, all educational organizations of the republic will have access to high-speed Internet. There is no such large-scale programme in any region of Russia. The unprecedented programme is being implemented under the Digital Economy national project and personally by the decision of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov.

Regional schools are connected to the Internet using the new FOCL technology (fiber-optic communication line) instead of the outdated ADSL technology. Connection via "optics" will provide educational institutions with high-quality and uninterrupted internet with a speed of at least 100 Mib/s.

As many as 635 of 1,680 regional schools have already been connected to the high-speed Internet via fiber-optic lines (including 27 schools - in 2019). The remaining 1,045 schools will also have high-speed Internet access by the coming academic year.

To date, the implementation of the programme is at its final stage. Construction and installation work has already been carried out at 945 of 1,045 planned facilities.

Work is underway as fast as possible to ensure that schoolchildren have access to the Internet by 1 September.

Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov pays special attention to the availability of high-quality school and preschool education and the establishment of all conditions for the successful development of students.
